That's certainly another take, but I don't believe it's altogether true. Not all the Founders were wealthy and powerful. Paul Revere was a silversmith. Also, you are talking about men who basically gave themselves to a cause which would result in death if it failed. That's not really the same thing as some rich guy just trying to game the system. They did argue about the role of government, but there is nothing in their writings or speeches that would have them in agreement with the size of our present government.

The Declaration of Independence clearly states the founding principles of America. The Constitution is the framework that makes those principles a reality. Hamilton didn't even want the Bill of Rights because he said every right not written in the Bill would be trampled. And he was right. The "strong central" government that the Founders spoke of, is not like the "strong central" government that we think of today. The Fed is basically there to protect citizens from the states, make treaties, and such. I don't envision any Founding Father arguing for government subsidized daycare.

Interesting, another view is that the United States was founded by a bunch of tax cheats. They were, after all, the wealthy and powerful. I do believe that they would be opposed to government by the masses.

More likely, their vision of the United States was a union of countries. So the federal government would be very limited and weak. They fought bitterly about how strong the central government should be. They also believed that the Constitution should grow with the nation, so they would probably argue today that the government should play a stronger role.

I think you will find, at least here, that I let people talk or make comments. That doesn't mean I won't argue against their comments, but I let people make them and publish them all. As far as timing goes, well, what can you do? If you agree with the message, then the timing shouldn't be an issue. Is timing motivated by politics? Probably for a lot of people. But again, what can you do? And I replied this another person, the Tea Party is more conservative because America is really a center right country. The founding of America is conservative. It just is. So to agree with smaller government is to align yourself with conservative principles. I do agree that too many people are one issue voters. But too many people are just unintelligent voters anyway. That's why I push studying American history to see how we were founded and why. Education is a key to the survival of this country.

One of the problems I have with the tea party is it's timing. Why now ? Why not when a lot of our liberties were being tramled on in the name of security.
Another problem I have ,it appears to lean more toward the conservatives ,which is generally Republican.I agree with some conservative views ,but not all . I use the CAN'T SEE THE FOREST FOR THE TREES. A lot of people will pick one topic a canidate agrees with that they disagree with .The canidate may agree with say 85- 90% with that person ,but they do not get to know the rest of his views because they are dwelling on one topic.
I am also one of those that may disagree with what you say ,but defend your right to say it .Please give everyone that same consideration

Agripa, isn't the very nature of the tea party political, ergo must devolve into politics. For years I voted independent parties.Got nodda .Why you query ,strength in numbers,if you can't beat them join them. The tea party is great on paper but the strength is in the message and the numbers supporting the message. So we must be a two party system....simple left or right....either or.To the point, how many people are willing to risk punitive action on the federal side by not paying thier taxes versus those who are willing to stand up and say no to a go government that cann't see it's own toes.Further, how do you reach the public with your plee.

your comments are absurd,I applaud the recent financial grab by the very culture which provided our current financial crisis.Look into your heart ,wouldn't you do the same.
Maybe not,but surely a million here and a million there can't harm anything ,the train is out of control.Taxes are out of hand because we like it, otherwise our lack of political involvement of' Joseph Blow' would appear to be some form of stupidity, apathy, preoccupation or other. Imagine the impact on,Japan's economy if the greedy car companies folded ? increased car affordability... probably not.Would our travel stop no....business as usual. The notion of collective descent is only viable if you pay your taxes otherwise we will be forced ,only I might say if you remain steadfast,to shoot a few of you in hopes to bring reason back to obviously miss led citizens.Corruption in quantity is a show of health and prosperity,in the federal quarter. We are not equipped to understand the 'devil's details' just go along to get along that is the american way.Stop your whining and pay, some very comfortable people are counting on you.thank god for exon raking banner profits from the pockets of the people when there is no choice but pay, That my friend is good business, although morally reprehensible. Exon ,I'm sure is owned over seas where they say,'money talks, bullshit walks.'When I heard about this ceo of some health insurance was raking in only forty to sixty million I wondered at how hard his job must be, and yet still suffer the failure to provide adequate affordable health care and beaf up the profits? Surely one could not expect a mere man to give up anything on the grounds of fair play and thoughts based in moral fiber, and virtue alone, that smacks of weakness and a woefully naive point of reference .If it wasn't for our fast talking tail spinners there would be no booming chinese economy, amongst the other tags we see on most of our goods, taiwan Argentina, etc.I like my foreign car ,I like talking to somebody in India about my phone problem in buffalo ny,I get a sense that I'm in good hands, particularly when I can't understand a single word...those are my tax dollars at work.Just pay your taxes, whn the boats to full it will sink

bravo,
For many years I have felt the bloat of our now openly corrupt federal government.the advent of the tea party is hopefull, for in my opinion, the only hope for change without bloodshed is strength in numbers.
I to have noticed the despairing waste of time and energy spent around party affiliation as being a major hurtle to accomplishing anything of major consequence to the country's wellbeing. What happened to 'by the people for the people'...when our country is for sale, our leadership positions bought and sold, and our economy sub'd out,you have a country of the screwed.
hit them where they live,in the wallet Every day the war abroad, recent robbery, I mean bailout for bonuses ,goes on is increased taxation for me and you and your children, there children. The road we are on goes only one way-worse.With focused strength in numbers nothing is impossible.Starve the plant,it will die.'We the people' have all the power when working in concert.Ah but with change comes the question 'to what'.If we halt the government's flow of doe.we then need a strong sense of direction with a solution prepared.don't bother................the bottom line is,squease them by the nuts.Want to change health care,,,don't pay the premium, want to fix the cost of cars stop buying them.
We are now a government run 'for the corporations by the corporations' .no heart just numbers.Take it back

A couple of things that we can think about. First, the founding of this country is more aligned with conservative policy. Let's be honest. The Founding Fathers wanted limited government. Even Hamilton and Jefferson who went at eachother hammer and tongs would be considered conservative. Although, Hamilton is more like a modern day Republican in that he believed in a strong central government. Second, it is true that under the Bush Admin. there was massive spending. However, defense spending can be looked at differently than domestic spending. With that being the case, there was still a lot of domestic spending. However, the purse strings of Congress are in the House of Reps. The government is three different branches, so you can't lay everything at the president's feet, no matter who that president is. Lastly, the elections are about 2 choices: Dem or Repub. The Repub winners were more center right guys. This country is a center right country. So when you have 2 choices, either Dem or Repub, the tea party side would obviously be the Repub. Although, you can see that guys like McCain are being challenged. So it's not really "Republican" as much as which person represents smaller government.

And in Bush's defense, he did try to tackle Social Security, which is a huge government mess. But he did have many flaws and so did the Republicans in Congress back then.

Though the stated aims of the Tea Party, including the importance of non-partisanship, are laudable, the recent voting in Massachusetts seems to indicate a leaning towards Rebublican ideals. This is incongruent and worrying since we saw probably the greatest figures in history for government spending under the recent Republican administration - principally in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and the banking bail-out, together totalling trillions of dollars. What are we to conclude about Massachusetts and the principal of non-partisanship in the Tea-party movement?

By the way, the government can "spray hose up" by cutting taxes and fees. Why don't you do yourself a favor and keep a log of how much you pay in taxes and fees in a 3 month period. Include you pay, tax on gas, food, telephone, and all the fees on everything. That is a "spray hose up."
