On December 16, 1773 Samuel Adams proclaimed to a large audience at a protest meeting, “This meeting can do nothing more to save the country.” As his voice faded in the din, members of the Sons of Liberty, dressed as Indians and armed with clubs and hatchets, made their way to Griffin’s Warf in Boston Harbor to carry out one of the most famous acts of political protest in history. By the end of the evening 45 tons of British tea was floating in Boston Harbor.
The tea thrown into the harbor was worth around $1.87 million in today’s money. That is a drop in the bucket compared to the hundreds of billions being “tossed overboard” by our current government in the “throwing anything at the wall to see what sticks” version of saving the economy.
It’s not bad enough that taxpayers are already on the hook for $700 billion. No. To add insult to injury the banks receiving bailout money have almost all declined to say how they are using our money. Other companies that couldn’t succeed and needed a bailout, like AIG, have spent hundreds of millions on bonus packages for the management that led them into the abyss in the first place. If that’s not bad enough, get ready for the next Administration as they prepare to dump $1 trillion in an effort to “fix” the economy.
Where do they get all of this money? Take a look at your paycheck. It’s easy to have a spending habit when it’s not your money. Ask any spoiled teenager.
Just as the Sons of Liberty felt unrepresented in government, every hard working American today should feel unrepresented. If you save your money, run a business by keeping spending under control, have a 30 year fixed mortgage, and strive to do better, chances are you are not represented. If you are a failing CEO, union boss, or government official, chances are you are being over-represented.

Our country is at the tipping point. While there are good people in Congress, there are far too many who have no idea what they are doing. Would you hire an architect to do brain surgery? No. Then why do we have career politicians and lawyers trying to “fix” the economy? Without “politics” and special interest groups, the problems of our country are solvable. With politics as usual and special interest groups pouring in money and influence, America is falling further and further from its birth in 1776.
Take action. Grab the mantle passed on by Paul Revere and Samuel Adams. While dumping tea into Boston Harbor is not a good option today, there is another option available to show Congress how you feel and to link history. Send tea. Send a tea bag. Send a box of tea. Send Earl Grey or send Irish Breakfast. Just send it. To make the impact felt we are highlighting 4 addresses to send tea to, 2 for the Senate and 2 for the House of Representatives. This is not about playing politics. It’s not about Red or Blue, liberal versus conservative. It’s about getting back to the core of a “government for the people, by the people, and of the people.”
DO NOT send loose tea and DO NOT send any crude notes or anything besides tea. Remember, this is simply a protest statement. There is no need to get rude. Due to heightened tensions after 9/11 there is no need to send loose tea. Be respectful above everything else. Just send tea. If enough tea is sent the message is clear.

Coming from a grandmother who grew up dirt poor in Inez, Ky and another grandmother who lived the WWII England and war rations, I find it hard to believe that my government is willing to leave the country that my in-utero child will be coming into so deep in debt that their children’s children will not even begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel…. Tea Parties are just the beginning, let us fill the House and the Senate entirely with bags of Earl Grey and let them sit around and think about the message they’ve been sent!!!

This “Tea Party” thing is a good start. The Politicians need to wake up and make sensible decisions or be ousted from office, starting with Obama. In no time at all they (the government) will bring this country to its knees and it will take decades to bring it back to its feet, if that is possible. The Democrats and Republicans have been destroying this country long enough and all the time lining their pockets with our tax dollars. Why not create a “Tea” Party that can start putting good people into office; people that have no agendas or special interest groups paying them for favors. Don’t discount the power of the mail. Every government official says that “snail” mail is something that has an effect on them. Everything can be effective in its own way. If an office gets 100 pieces of mail every single day, that will speak volumes. Also think of logistics. Most people can’t take off time and can’t afford to go marching on Washington DC. Even if they can, how often can they do it? For $50 you can send a lot of mail. Powerful things come in all different forms. That being said, if you want to organize a march, go for it.

we will never have enough to elect a third party candidate. what we can do is every member vote for the incumbant, it makes no difference what party they belong to, if that partys nominee is an incumbant, vote for their opponent. if in the last election your representative or senator was elected by a margin of 10% or less think what if only 5% of the voters in your district belonged to the Tea Party what could of happened. we must get rid of the present people in Washington. this is the only chance we have. if the present office holder is a Republican and the party wants to put his name on the ballot all Tea Party members must vote for the Democrat nominee. if the party puts some other name other than the incumbant then the Tea Party members vote for whoever you think would be the best person to represent you. by the same token if the Democrats nominate an incumbant you must vote for the Republican if he has not been to Washington and would be a new face which is what we need. if every Tea Party member would do this you do not have to have a national organazation, we would not have to pay any dues, nor contribute to any candidate. simply wait until the names are on the ballot and follow the above plan. think of what some incumbants would feel like in Nov. 2010 and it would have a definite effect in 2012. just remember “NO INCUMBANTS”.

So if we as Americans want to make a stand and unite send a hard message, stick it to the Gov where it hurts in the pocket book. Look at paragraph four above most Americans continue to send your taxes in aiding to the problem, giving more fuel(dollars) to a Gov that has no boundaries. File exempt on your W2 keep your money. Average tax payer per week $155.00 in taxes x 52 $8,060.00 a year, now multiply this by lets say 15 million. Thats $120,900,000,000 billion!!!! Think the gov would miss this? Run them out of money! I bet all those senators, house of reps not receiving paychecks quit and find another lilne of work! If 30 million Americans did the exempt Government movement we could start a new American in a month.
It is time we take back our country, we have worked hard to build a country with a lifestyle that others want to have. So many move to the good O’ USA and then want everything handed to them. It’s time the Baby Boomers have a tea party to protest the fact that our social security age for retirement keeps changing. It’s time the 50 million strong unite and get a stimulus package….give us a package to retire and give up our jobs, pay off our mortages and purchase an American vehicle, this would stimulate the economy. IT seems that the tea party movement is a great start to influence our corrupt politicians (especially the prez!), to STOP building their socialist system on the backs of Americans. It also seems to me that to get there, they will need to break the economy in order to create the emergency necessary to complete their plan. The unions are also behind this. There needs to a MASSIVE letter writing, phone calling, tea bag sending movement so that they understand clearly what actual Americans (not the prez speak “the american people want bla, bla, bla. . .) Tea Parties are a great idea, a visual way to keep the people’s dislike of what is currently going on in our country in the fore front of everyone’s attention. They need to continue. As the next two years unfold I think there will be more people who realize that our freedom, if taken for granted, will be taken away.
We had a great Tea Party in Fresno Cal. with men and women dressed in early pioneer attire, and even had “Paul Revere” riding, reminding us that The “Red” Coats are already here, and have taken over Washington D.C. It was great to see so many “Minute Men” parading down our main streets.

Since my last comment we ventured down from our Mountain Top to Fresno. Surprise! There were today people with banners proclaiming “Tea Party” on many street corners. The Revolution continues!
Iwas at my local tea party in Richmond va in the spring. It was a enormous turn out. With the huge numbers of supporters turning out, we are a truly making history, Real noteworthy history. If we keep up the pressure we will make changes. Let us all remember everyday that goes by we seem to lose more of our freedoms . Too many men and women have died securing these freedoms from the revolutionary war to our current wars in Iraq and afganistan. Lets dont let them down. Rick
I so agree with Rick. “…Every day that goes by we seem to lose more of our freedoms…” Just today, reading in the paper, the case filed by a young man to be able to wear a T-shirt and a belt buckle to school bearing the image of the Confederate battle flag in his former Knoxville, Tennessee high school was thrown out by a federal judge. He said he wanted to display his pride in his Southern heritage. Others view the Confederate flag as a symbol of racism and intolerance. Their freedom of speech wasn’t impaired, but this young man’s was. Freedoms seem to be taken away every day.
15 April 2009 was the first time I have publicly ‘protested’ anything in my life. I have since found out about “We The People Foundation” and the Continental Congress 2009 they are arranging in St. Charles, IL in November (9 – 22) to file for redress of grieviances (per the First Amendment). These grieviances are for violations to the U. S. Constitution by our (supposed servant) federal government.
I would encourage ALL Tea Party members and friends to become informed about “We The People Foundation” and participate in a process that will take action to challenge our out of control federal government, and to take our country back from the hands of a tyrranical government.
All Liberty loving Americans must ACT now – nonviolently, not just protest. We cannot wait for two years or more to wrestle our country from the grip of revolutionaries, left wing statists, and other radicals. WE MUST ACT NOW!!! We must participate in “We The People Foundation” and like minded organizations that take action NOW, not just wait for the next election – as important as it is.

Again, I am approving a comment which is an example of simplistic unintelligent political discourse. This blog was started before Pres. Obama took office, FYI. Tax cuts are good for the economy and the Bush tax cuts were across the board, not just for the wealthy. Take a look into the research on that rather than just spouting “talking points.” Also, the housing crisis started with President Carter and was pushed by Dems like Barney Frank. In fact, Frank is still pushing similar legislation. Try reading some of my posts. The one where you have to live by the laws of nature is a good place to start. Police are gathering the personal details of thousands of activists who attend political meetings and protests, and storing their data on a network of nationwide intelligence databases.
The hidden apparatus has been constructed to monitor “domestic extremists”, the Guardian can reveal in the first of a three-day series into the policing of protests. Detailed information about the political activities of campaigners is being stored on a number of overlapping IT systems, even if they have not committed a crime.

Senior officers say domestic extremism, a term coined by police that has no legal basis, can include activists suspected of minor public order offences such as peaceful direct action and civil disobedience.
Three national police units responsible for combating domestic extremism are run by the “terrorism and allied matters” committee of the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo). In total, it receives £9m in public funding, from police forces and the Home Office, and employs a staff of 100.
An investigation by the Guardian can reveal:
• The main unit, the National Public Order Intelligence Unit (NPOIU), runs a central database which lists thousands of so-called domestic extremists. It filters intelligence supplied by police forces across England and Wales, which routinely deploy surveillance teams at protests, rallies and public meetings. The NPOIU contains detailed files on individual protesters who are searchable by name.
• Vehicles associated with protesters are being tracked via a nationwide system of automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras. One man, who has no criminal record, was stopped more than 25 times in less than three years after a “protest” marker was placed against his car after he attended a small protest against duck and pheasant shooting. ANPR “interceptor teams” are being deployed on roads leading to protests to monitor attendance.
• Police surveillance units, known as Forward Intelligence Teams (FIT) and Evidence Gatherers, record footage and take photographs of campaigners as they enter and leave openly advertised public meetings. These images are entered on force-wide databases so that police can chronicle the campaigners’ political activities. The information is added to the central NPOIU.
• Surveillance officers are provided with “spotter cards” used to identify the faces of target individuals who police believe are at risk of becoming involved in domestic extremism. Targets include high-profile activists regularly seen taking part in protests. One spotter card, produced by the Met to monitor campaigners against an arms fair, includes a mugshot of the comedian Mark Thomas.
• NPOIU works in tandem with two other little-known Acpo branches, the National Extremism Tactical Coordination Unit (Netcu), which advises thousands of companies on how to manage political campaigns, and the National Domestic Extremism Team, which pools intelligence gathered by investigations into protesters across the country.
Denis O’Connor, the chief inspector of constabulary, will next month release the findings of his national review of policing of protests. He has already signalled he anticipates wide scale change. His inspectors, who were asked to review tactics in the wake of the Metropolitan police’s controversial handling of the G20 protests, are considering a complete overhaul of the three Acpo units, which they have been told lack statutory accountability.
Acpo’s national infrastructure for dealing with domestic extremism was set up with the backing of the Home Office in an attempt to combat animal rights activists who were committing serious crimes. Senior officers concede the criminal activity associated with these groups has receded, but the units dealing with domestic extremism have expanded their remit to incorporate campaign groups across the political spectrum, including anti-war and environmental groups that have only ever engaged in peaceful direct action.
All three units divide their work into four categories of domestic extremism: animal rights campaigns; far-right groups such as the English Defence League; “extreme leftwing” protest groups, including anti-war campaigners; and “environmental extremism” such as Climate Camp and Plane Stupid campaigns.
Anton Setchell, who is in overall command of Acpo’s domestic extremism remit, said people who find themselves on the databases “should not worry at all”. But he refused to disclose how many names were on the NPOIU’s national database, claiming it was “not easy” to count. He estimated they had files on thousands of people. As well as photographs, he said FIT surveillance officers noted down what he claimed was harmless information about people’s attendance at demonstrations and this information was fed into the national database.
He said he could understand that peaceful activists objected to being monitored at open meetings when they had done nothing wrong. “What I would say where the police are doing that there would need to be the proper justifications,” he said.

I don’t know anything about the pink slip idea. To start a rally, I would just suggest spreading the word and then contacting local media.
I saw a great placard that someone was holding up at one of our rallies. This 60ish gentleman and his wife were holding a placard that showed a symbol of the Democratic Party (Jackass) kicking up his heels. It simply read: YOU CRAM THIS HEALTH CARE BILL DOWN OUR THROATS, AND WE WILL CRAM OUR VOTES UP YOUR ASS.” Well, there you have it. It may seem simple, but there it is in a nut shell. There were a lot of cross over middle of the road voters who voted for Obama just for change, but were hoping that change would create jobs for themselves, their husbands, and their kids. Well where are the jobs? Ain’t there.

im sending a message of something I experienced saturday.a member of my family needed for me to co-sign for a car a 2004 chev mini-van I told them I would sign if they could finance it for six thousand wit payment betwee $150. month. I had no doubt that this family could handle it. They are not bound to credit cards nor do they want them. They run our credit and theirs.thier scores were average mine above average. they prepared the papers . let them borrow the van. until they could bring me in to sign them.but see jif I would agree to buy the car in my name and put me on the couples insusrance.that my credit would be best for them they could get them better interest rate. I thought of it then but something didnt sound right.so when we went in . we waited almost an hour before the finance guy . would talk to us.they said that they had shredded the documents ,that they had to start over.( my daughter in law she didnt believe them because them. paper she signedto borrow the car over night was among them.) the finance manager told us that if I didnt sign agree to buying the car that .the interest w ould be 21% and payments would be aroun $200. not at all what the couple said that was agreed upon.but if I did there would only be 4%interest. He told me that all I would have to do is take the papers to a certain credit union. they would write me a check and all I would have jto do is bring it in ,I had told him previously that my income was $890. a mo. and a small check from an Ira for $300. total of $1190. a month.(social security)and why would tinker credit union write me a check. he said they won,t do anything but write me a check and they would sent the finance agreements in . that with my perfect credit. they would have no problem.since they already lied to the couple i refused. that I would sign the agreement that was first written up that I could take the high interest rate and the cuple agreed .that they could handle it.He said that he would let us talk it over so he left.while he left the salesman with us .My son became suspious.he told the salesman that we h avent time to fool around that I had already used my oxygen and had only 1hr left. they wanted hem to take the van til monday so they could apraise his trade in.he said no . we have to go. As we got in our car to leave.the finance person wanted us to come in and talk about it. Hde said no .MOm is low on oxygen.im more suspious about the credit union.somtthing isnt right.
If all this is true, we’re in worse shape than realized. If your idea of life in America resembles life in any Socialist State now in existence or in the past then by your definition of freedom we are the ultimate losers. What have we lost? We have lost the zest for freedom that men and women have fought tyrants through out history for. We have lost our ability of thinking for ourselves, and not being told what to believe. Every day there is some new idea coming out of the minds of nanny state liberals in this country that makes me wonder who these people really are . Meatless Mondays in San Francisco? Wow!
